Wimborne Community Theatre at the Green Festival explores What is Home?

Wimborne Community Theatre will present 3 short outdoor performances on the Minster Green on Saturday 18 October at 2, 3 & 4 pm at Wimborne Green Festival, on the theme of HOME, with songs by members of Wimborne Choir, Jubilate. Before and after each performance, people are invited to join in a conversation about what Home means, asking - Is there no place like it? Is it where the heart is? This is the first part of a community theatre project focussing on the theme of HOME and what it means to long-time Wimborne residents as well as newcomers and visitors. We are asking, Is Home a place or a feeling? Or both?
Perhaps you have a special object that sums up the idea of ‘Home’, something you would always take with you when you move? If you like you can bring it along to be photographed and record your own story - we may even use it join our final production in 2026.All
Gill Horitz, said on behalf of WCT, ‘All our productions begin by listening to people’s ideas on a particular theme, and from these ideas and stories we begin to shape the narrative of the play’.” Saturday, October 18, 2 – 5 pm, with performances 2 pm, 3 pm, & 4 pm, (15-20 mins max.)

THE GRAND PROCESSION AHEAD OF THE WIMBORNE MINSTER FLOWER FESTIVAL

The grand procession of the accessories used in the
Wimborne Minster Flower Festival duly took place as planned through the Streets of Wimborne Minster on the morning of Saturday 20th September. The helpers started to gather at the home of Anthony & Christine Oliver in Park Lane, Wimborne Minster from 9.30am in readiness to carry all the accessories which have been made out of papier mache over the last year to the Minster in readiness for the Flower Festival which opened on Friday 26th September and continued until Monday 29th September. Entry to the Festival was £7.50 with all proceeds going towards the proposed ramp and improved steps to make the historic church readily accessible to everyone. The Parade was led by the Rector of Wimborne Minster The Revd Canon Andrew Rowland and the Assistant Curate the Revd Marianne Mangham together with the Town Crier of Wareham Jacqui Hall standing in for Wimborne's Town Crier Chris Brown. The route took the procession through Willow Walk as the Wimborne Food Festival was setting up and on through the Hanham Road South
Car Park up Mill Lane and into the High Street and onto the Minster. "There were plenty of onlookers who, I think were most amused by what they were seeing especially the Dinosaur", said Anthony Oliver, the Minsters Press Officer who also headed the Parade carrying the Dorset Flag. Revd Marianne also carried aloft the Dorset Flag. Christine Oliver who designed the whole festival which has the title of "The Delights of Dorset" said "that she was grateful for all the help and
support she has received from many volunteers over the past year in helping to make the accessories and to the many Flower Clubs from across Dorset and our own team of Flower Arrangers who staged the Exhibits in the Minster. The whole Festival could not be done without everyone's support and now all we want is the Public to come and enjoy the event".
